Olaszrizling - Bujdosó Estate and Winery
The Bujdosó family cultivates nearly 90 hectares of vineyards along the southern shore of Lake Balaton, on the prime slopes of the versatile Somogy Hills. Three generations oversee the winery’s operations. White grape varieties occupy 60% of the estate. Particular attention is given to olaszrizling, sauvignon blanc and kékfrankos, while the family also takes pride in their traditional sparkling wine. The estate strives for the highest standards of viticulture, pursuing chemical-free cultivation and seeking grape varieties that meet the challenges of the times and climate change. The family are passionate about Lake Balaton and sailing: with their Pannonia 70 cruiser, they are regular participants in the lake’s sailing competitions.
Category winner wine: Hegybor 270 2023
This wine by Bujdosó Winery is produced from olaszrizling hand-harvested on Csirip-tető, which is an exceptional vineyard: a 270-metre-high plateau bordered by woodland below, providing natural cooling for the vines. Constant air movement is particularly beneficial in maintaining healthy grapes for harvest. The aim was to craft a full-bodied, complex wine that expresses the varietal character. Aromas of white-fleshed peach, green apple, and spring flowers greet the senses. The palate offers a substantial body balanced by fine acidity, with ripe fruit defining the tasting experience. The finish reveals an almond-like astringency. After all, it is a quintessential olaszrizling.
