Members of Parliament belonging to the same party form parliamentary groups. These groups may be established with no fewer than five Members; however, a group may be formed with three Members, provided that all three of them received their mandates through the same distinct national party list.
Parliamentary groups and their leaders play a key role in numerous aspects of the work of the National Assembly, such as nominating parliamentary officers, developing the committee system, nominating committee members and proposing items for the orders of the day for a plenary sitting. Members participate in the deliberations of committees which were delegated for that purpose by their parliamentary group.
